Patents

Convention Priority Application
  1. Japanese translation of specification and claims, and drawings if any.
  2. Priority date and country of the first filed application(s).
After filing, we also need:
  1. Priority document, if any, to be filed within 14 months from the priority date.*
English Text Application with Convention Priority
  1. Specification and claims, and drawings if any, in English language.
  2. Filing date and country of the first filed application(s).
After filing, we also need:
  1. Japanese translation to be filed in two months from the Japanese filing date.*
  2. Priority document, if any, to be filed within 14 months from the priority date.*
National Phase of PCT Application (Non-Japanese Application)
  1. Japanese translation of specification, claims and drawings by the 30 months deadline

  Let us know of the WIPO publication number. Normally, we can obtain a copy of it and it is not necessary for you to send us a copy. However, send us a copy of an Article 19 amendment, if any.
The form for the National Phase entry has to be filed by the 30 months deadline. No extension available. The required Japanese translation may be filed later within two months of the National Phase entry beyond the 30 months deadline.
Designs
  1. Drawings (or photographs or samples), and a name and brief description of products.
  2. Filing date and country of first filing, if Convention priority is to be claimed.
After filing, we also need:
  1. Priority document, if any, to be filled in three months from the filing date.*
Trademarks
  1. A mark and goods or services to be designated (preferably international class as well).
(For a mark that is comprised of a device, we need one specimen.)

After filing, we also need:
  2. Priority document, if any, to be filed in two months from the filing date.*
 
* No extension of these terms is available. NB: As of April 1, 1998, we no longer need to file an executed power of attorney for filing ordinary applications. Power of attorney will be required only under limited circumstance, and we will inform you when we need it.
As of September 1, 2002, Japan adopted the PCT amendment to the effect of the uniform 30 months National Phase entry due date.
